Chai “N” Thai @ Nimman
“Great food, friendly knowledgeable staff and good atmosphere.”

Tandoor, biryani, hummus and halal kitchens around the Night Bazaar and Nimman. As always: multi-list agreements first, every card shows all three judges, and nobody paid to be here.
Chiang Mai's Indian and Middle Eastern kitchens exist for a reason that predates tourism: the city has had a Muslim quarter around Ban Haw mosque, near the night bazaar and the Ping river, since the Yunnanese Haw caravan traders settled here in the nineteenth century. That quarter is still where the halal cooking clusters, and it is also — not coincidentally — where the city's khao soi tradition took root.
The newer layer sits in Nimmanhaemin and around the universities, serving a long-stay population of students, remote workers and a steady South Asian business community. Between them you get a genuinely broad spread: North Indian tandoor and curry houses, South Indian dosa and thali, Pakistani and Bangladeshi kitchens, biryani specialists, and a scattering of Levantine and Persian rooms doing hummus, falafel and grilled meat.
This is also a category where the two ranked platforms disagree about which restaurants exist at all — several entries below are known to Google and invisible to TripAdvisor, or the reverse. Read the cards rather than the ordering.
This list holds 11 places, 7 with a Google rating (averaging 4.5★) and 4 with a TripAdvisor score. No entry here appears on more than one judge's list, so the ordering below is a ranking of single opinions; 3 sit in the cheapest price band.

Halal is a claim, and most kitchens here make it explicitly. Where it matters, the certification is usually displayed at the door; the older shops near the mosque are the safest assumption.
Portion sizes are Thai, not subcontinental. Ordering the way you would at home tends to produce twice the food you wanted. Two mains and a bread between two is usually right.
Vegetarian overlap is heavy. Several of the strongest entries here are vegetarian-first kitchens and also appear on the plant-based list.
Ratings are Google and TripAdvisor listings captured August 2026; MICHELIN status is the Guide's Chiang Mai selection. A blank column means our sources hold no score for that restaurant, which on some categories is the norm rather than a warning — how we built this.
